NISSEDAL

Visit Nissedal

South of West Telemark you will find the municipality of Nissedal, which is idyllically situated by Lake Nisser, surrounded by whitewashed shacks and towering peaks such as Hægefjell and Kronfjell. With a good climate and varied terrain, Nissedal invites you to fantastic nature experiences all year round!

Nisser , which is 35 kilometers long and 250 meters deep, is the second largest lake in Telemark and a dominant landmark with inviting green areas, kilometers of sandy beaches and rocky cliffs. Along the waterfront - and especially at the meeting point in the center with both a water trampoline, table tennis table, hammock and barbecue - you can relax and enjoy happy days with the whole family.

The Fjoneferja, Norway's smallest cable ferry , crosses the barely 500-meter-wide Fjonesundet from Fjone to Framnes and is the shortcut between the east and west sides of Nisser.

It is the lake that has given its name to Nissedal . In Old Norse, Nisser was called Niðsær which means The Lower Lake (Vråvatn is the upper one).
